If you’re remodeling your home or looking for eco-friendly upgrades, new flooring is a great opportunity to start making green changes in your home. Choosing an eco-friendly flooring option does not limit your look! Here are a few eco-friendly flooring options you can use in your home.
Natural stone refers to a variety of materials which are extracted from the earth and then processed into architectural elements. This is important because different types of stone will have different properties. Marble and onyx, for instance, are very soft, easily scratched, and can be stained by liquid agents.
Rubber is water resistant and will be impervious to most stains, although there are a few chemicals that can cause blemishes. It is also naturally slip-resistant, and it comes in a variety of thicknesses, many of which provide padding that can make these wet environments much safer.
The structural strength of a ceramic tile is based on how hot the fires were when it was baked in the kiln. Higher temperatures will result in more durable materials, such as porcelain, and a glaze can help prevent scratches. Natural stone also varies by type of material, with granite and slate being much harder than marble or limestone. However stone can have hidden faults in individual pieces, and some materials may be prone to chipping along the edges and at the corners of the square.
