Porcelain is a type of ceramic that is characterized by being stronger, harder, purer, and more water resistant than these already durable materials. This inherent versatility gives it the ability to provide a number of benefits in a variety of architectural surface covering applications. However, as with all flooring options, there are both advantages and disadvantages to its use.
With glazed ceramic, you can use virtually any cleaning agent that you want to completely sanitize the area. With harsher chemicals, you should be careful not to degrade the grout lines too much. You also want to make sure the space being cleaned is well ventilated, and follow all manufacturers instructions in the application of any cleanser.
The kitchen is tough on floors. How can you choose one that is low-maintenance? You have spatters and stains from inevitable spills onto the flooring. On top of this, you have extremes of heat and heavy appliances which stand in place for years. Then there are the sharp or heavy objects falling such as knives, cans, and pans which can puncture or crack the flooring.
Rubber is water resistant and will be impervious to most stains, although there are a few chemicals that can cause blemishes. It is also naturally slip-resistant, and it comes in a variety of thicknesses, many of which provide padding that can make these wet environments much safer.
